As a human in a world now crawling with cryptids, the mystical creatures of the universe, Finn has a hard time relating to her influential father, Antony, who has left out one very important detail Finn is a genie. Barely aware of her new cryptid status, she plans to use the lost lamp as a means of escape, and to reunite with her mother. When the Grim Reaper saves her life and reveals the more unsavory conditions of being bound to the lamp, Finn begins to question the freedom she's after, and his eagerness does nothing to assuage Finn's conscience. Not to mention that, ever since she died, she's been seeing people's deaths-before they happen. In a world where tension between the humans and cryptids is rapidly mounting, Finn begins to realize her own influence not just as a genie, but as the Reaper's Raven.

Just finished The Reaper's Raven today; a very interesting read. It was pretty fast-paced for most of it, but then there were a few points of oddly slow pacing where large chunks of time passed with barely a mention. Overall I enjoyed the read; *spoiler alert* maybe it's just me but I found the romance which develops between the main character and the Reaper to be slightly off putting and odd, but that's probably just a personal thing. My main actual criticism would be that there could have been more description throughout, to help me paint a more vivid picture in my mind of this fascinating world the story takes place in. I think there's a lot of cool stuff to be explored and developed here though, especially the idea of the Reaper's Raven itself, and I look forward to reading the followup (especially with the cliffhanger at the end).

What an awesome book by a young new author. I highly recommend this for those who love young adult sci-fi! Not my typical choice for reading, but I couldn't put it down! I can't wait for more books from this author!
It is a great read for young adults.
An exciting fantasy read, this book keeps you in suspense. It doesn't feature the typical vampire or werewolf story but instead has some less common fantasy elements, making it a breath of fresh air. Overall, a great read from an author I think we'll be seeing much more of in the future.
I read this book over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Many sci-fic/fantasy books fall into the trap of being pretentious or a rip off of some of the more famous stories. Not this one. I thought this was original and worked in some of the feelings and problems that today’s real young adults deal with. It was down to earth yet full of imagination. While I am no longer a young adult I believe that many in that category would identify with the character, as well as enjoy the fictional world created by the author. The book ends with more stories to tell, so I am hoping for a sequel.
