In this 150-minute program, Sari Solden, a psychotherapist, writer, and internationally known pioneer in the field of women with Attention Deficit Disorder, explores the unique way in which women experience life with ADHD. In her poetic and warm style, Sari poignantly leads the listener through the shame and hiding that accompanies these challenges for women who often have difficulty meeting society's role expectations.

Sharing her own stories and real-life experiences of women with ADHD, Sari helps women feel relief and hope as they begin to dismantle their negative self images, accept themselves as unique instead of defective, and move toward a life of meaning.

Adapted from her groundbreaking book Women with Attention Deficit Disorder, Sari's reading is enhanced by original jazz and by actors who bring the vignettes of the book to life in powerful ways that underscore the emotions felt by these women. As a result, partners and families are able to understand the struggle these women face as they fight to find a way to use their gifts and strengths.

Every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with ADHD, because they don't fit the stereotypical profile they're not fast-talking or hyperactive and they are not male.

Sari's book revealed that ADHD affects just as many women as men, and that the resulting depression, disorganization, shyness, underachievement, and inactivity, are ways to identify many women with ADHD. Join the hundreds of thousands of women around the world who have experienced Sari's inspiring messages, as she, in a very personal way, leads women on the journey from hiding to embracing who they are. Solden empowers these women to find the courage to be themselves and take control by restructuring their lives, renegotiating relationships, and redefining their self-images. Women with Attention Deficit Disorder (Audible Audio Edition) Sari Solden MS Sari Solden MS LMFT Sari Solden Books

This is an excellent book for those of you who have already done some reading on ADD. Lots of examples that you can identify with and a few suggestions on how you might handle certain experiences. Do read the Forward and Introduction so you know what to expect out of the book. I think this would be even a better book for someone who is living with the ADD person as the author gives great insight into how a woman with ADD is feeling. She is spot on. It was an eye-opener for me as to how to accept having ADD and to recognize that I won't be able to do things on my own and will have to ask for and get assistance. Yes, I've even decided to hire housekeeping help on a regular basis, even if it is only monthly or quarterly. I no longer need to feel ashamed about it.

Women with Attention Deficit Disorder (Audible Audio Edition) Sari Solden MS Sari Solden MS LMFT Sari Solden Books Reviews

I have noticed that ADD/ADHD books tend to be written with lots of subject headings and illustrations. They feel "crowded" to read. Is this for the ADD/ADHD clients,or because that's how the author thinks? In either case, Ms. Solden, for me, has written a book I can hardly read. All the right info is there and it's presented thoroughly, yet I can't get past the too-crowded layout, starting with the front cover, the simplistic and even patronising (or childish) illustrations and charts, and the reiterations. Mis-spellings, sub-par grammar, and overuse of quotation marks made the text cluttered for me. HOWEVER, her moderately feminist perspective and analysis of women's unique ADD issues is on target. I just wish i could read it... <sigh> Perhaps she'll put out another edition which is better organized and has NO amateurish clip art? Her message deserves that. I'll get it out one...more....time and try again.
I read to book at the request of a good friend diagnosed with ADD. I was skeptical at first, but the book clearly outlines the problems without being sensationalistic or overly sympathic. I can see that I need to change my behavior. In some ways I was putting my friend in an untenable situation.
I only gave this book 4 stars because it isn't for everyone, IF you already know about your disorder and why you do the things you do I would not recomend it. Although it is great for people who need to know more about ADD without Hyperactivity and I think it is wonderful that is is being addressed since I have that particular ADD I think it is great for my husband to read or my family so they can better understand me. The problem is is that I know my problems I was seeking help and didn't find it just another book telling me whats wrong with me and not how I can better myself. Although the book made great points it was very hard to follow and I skipped around a LOT because there was nothing to hold my interest and for a book FOR people with this disorder it seems to be more readble for someone without it.
Fits me to a tee
An excellent book to help women with ADHD understand themselves better, and learn to accept themselves more with all the challenges their ADHD brings.
This book is something I could only give praise for. I recently was diagnosed as having Adult ADD-PI in my early 20s, and I have to admit my view of ADD was a 6 year old hyperactive neighbor boy who was just a little too loud and "in your face" for me to want to play with. Because of this view, at first I was resistant to the idea of having ADD, but then I started looking into it and the sub-category of Inattentive ADD really did fit me. I got this book because of its previous ratings and how it was so clearly meant for a specific group that apparently included me, that sub-category most women with ADD fall in. All those things you go thru as a child, while growing up, as more things are added to your life, all the struggles you face and just learn to deal with out of necessity, and how it creates the usually unconsidered psychological effects are all discussed in about the first third of this book. I have to admit, (and if anyone reading this review has ADD would be likely to understand) I have yet to finish reading this book. I am half way thru it, and I understand more of me then I ever have before, and understanding is leading to changing my whole view. Anyone who is living with a person who has this disorder and does not understand it, this is the book that will explain more than anything I have ever come across, about what it's like from inside and how it can tear the person down without them even being aware of it. This book then goes into how a person can restructure their lives and improve their world to make it work for them. As I said before, all I could give this book is praise. I hope it helps everyone as much as it has helped me.
I am a therapist who knew little about Adult ADD, until I myself was diagnosed. This is an excellent book for both the lay person and the clinician. I have heard it is the 'classic' on the subject and I can see why. It is to ADD what 'Co-Dependent no More'(Melody Beattie) is to Co-dependency. The 'go to' book for anyone with doubts about their behavior around procrastination, impulsivity, boredom, irritation, hyper-focusing, and having poor sense of time, (always late.). Historically ADHD has been more of a childhood diagnosis, and one does not have to have the 'H' (hyperactivity) to have adult ADD. If your behavior in the above areas iinterferes with your leading the good life, then you will be surprised at some of the symptoms this author give to Adult ADD, particularly women.
